Final Project - Paragraph: What I Learned Through the Semester

Through the semester I’ve learned about different aspects of the Internet in a more detailed way than what I already knew. In the very beginning, I learned about using Bitbucket and later on learned how to use Visual Studio Code to update my pages. After learning about the different uses and features of web browsers, search engines, social media, and email, I started learning about the communications and more of the security part with all the different parts to how information goes around and what different things mean. One of the things I remember was the encryption keys and how you can have a public key and a private key. The public key is what everyone can get to send you information but the private key is just your key only so you’re the only one who can open it. I thought the analogy with the mailbox was a useful thing to help me remember that. After we got through networking and security, I began to learn and use HTML for the first time. I learned about the different tags to use when writing HTML and how to validate a web page (as well as the HTML code needed to make it a valid web page). Next, I learned about CSS which was fun since it changed up my web pages and there were different ways that you could use CSS such as inline, internally, and externally. I also learned about putting in graphics and media using CSS and eventually putting in shapes or text via JavaScript. I learned that you can make games and animations using JavaScript as well. In databases, I learned about SQL and the different commands/operations to do a search. In project management, I learned about Gantt charts and how they are used in everyday life to organize and keep projects moving. Finally, I learned about the different IT careers that there are. It was interesting to learn about the IT careers even though I’m not planning on going into IT. Overall, this will help later on in the future if I ever need to create a website to show my work, or if I end up actually going into a front-end web design major.
