In the first activity, I learned about how to browsers and tips on using browsers. One of the tips I learned were bookmarking pages and organizing them. I knew about bookmarks previously, but I’m typically a disorganized person with my bookmarks, so knowing how to organize them was very useful. Being able to bookmark a page and organizing it into folders can be useful in the future if you don’t want to search through all of your bookmarks to find an important page. I usually like to bookmark a lot of things, so by being able to organize my bookmarks, I will be able to find my important bookmarks quicker than just going through all of my bookmarks.
In the second and third activities, I had to install other web browsers and then kind of play around with them and learn to use them. I have a Mac, so I wasn’t able to download Internet Explorer or Edge. I had Safari and Chrome already installed, so I really only needed to download Firefox and Opera. I have used Firefox in the past, but not the most recent version, so it was sort of exciting to actually see and use the new version of Firefox. I think the thing I had actually really learned from was the browser Opera. I actually have never heard of the browser before, so it was interesting to see the visual setup of the browser. I learned how to customize and navigate through the Opera browser (though many things such as finding bookmarks and opening/closing tabs were not really anything new to me). This will be useful to me in the future because I now know about the Opera browser, and I actually quite like it, so in the future I may use Opera more. Learning about the different browsers will also help in the future because I’ll be able to work with each browser and how they differ from each other.
Finally, fourth activity that I did was configuring the browser settings. What I learned from here was being able to change what you allow sites to do and what you don’t allow sites to do. I also learned that you’re able to configure add-ons (in activity five). Being able to change your browser and customize it was useful because you have more control over things such as search results and privacy. Being able to configure your settings will be useful in the future if you want to know how to change a setting (such as being able to change where a file saves, if you want to send analytics or not, or whether or not cookies are allowed).
